ARTICLE I Name of Organization
Section 1: The name of the organization shall be “Mark Wilson” Magic Club at Dallas College-Mountain View Campus.
ARTICLE II Purpose of the Organization
Section I: The purpose of the organization is to promote student development through the art of magic. To this end, the club
A. Provides students an avenue for meeting new collegiate friends
B. Enhances the development of leadership and communications skills
C. Helps students to develop self confidence in a public arena
D. Promotes the study and practice of the art of magic as a hobby and entertainment
E. Honors the contributions of world-renowned American magician and his wife, childhood Oak Cliff resident Mark Wilson and Nani Darnell Wilson.
ARTICLE III Qualifications for Membership
Section I: Membership is open to any student in good academic standing who is enrolled in one or more classes at Mountain View College.
ARTICLE IV Officers of the Organization
Section I: OFFICERS: The elected officers of the “Mark Wilson” Magic Club at Mountain View College shall consist of a President, Vice-President, Secretary/Treasurer, and Historian.
Section II: TERM: Officers will serve for one calendar year after elections each September.
Section III: QUALIFICATIONS: To be eligible to hold any office in the “Mark Wilson” Magic Club at Dallas College-Mountain View Campus, a student be currently enrolled at Dallas College and must be in good academic standing, maintaining a GPA or 2.0 or better, during the term of the office. Should a student fall out of good academic or behavioral standing in the college, the student will automatically lose the office, and the club executive committee may call for a new election to fill the vacated office.
Section IV: DUTIES:
A. President:
1) Preside over meetings
2) Set agendas for meetings
3) Appoint committees
4) Vote in meetings to break ties
5) Serve as the organization’s official representative
B. Vice-President:
1) Assume the duties of the President in his/her absence
2) Other duties as the club may assign
C. Secretary:
1) Take minutes of the meetings
2) Maintain current attendance records
3) Maintain a schedule of events
4) Be the official record keeper for the organization
D. Treasurer:
1) Be responsible for recording/monitoring all organizational funds
2) Present a financial report at each meeting
3) Work with the Club Coordinator/Sponsor(s) in all bookkeeping issues
4) Complete the monthly budget report for the Business Office
E. Historian
1) Keep the record of activities throughout the year
2) Maintain a club scrapbook for the year
3) With the secretary, help compose a year-end review of club activities
F. Senator/Representative to the Student Government Organization
1) Represent the club at Dallas College/SGA Meetings
2) Report SGA Meeting business related to the Magic Club
Section V: THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
The Executive Committee shall consist of the elected officers. The President shall serve as the chair of the Executive Committee, with other officers serving as the Executive Board. A simple majority vote by the Executive Committee is required to conduct any business that refers to the Executive Committee.
ARTICLE V ELECTIONS
Section I: ELECTION OF OFFICERS
A. Club members will elect club officers to hold positions for a calendar year.
B. Officer elections will take place annually during the month of September or October.
C. A simple majority of those members attending a meeting designated by the Club Sponsors for the purpose of elections will elect the officers.
Section II: REMOVAL OF OFFICERS:
A. A student will lose his/her office if the student is determined by college authorities to be out of good standing for either for violations of the Student Code of Conduct or for academic probation. A student who loses an office may file a petition for reinstatement in the club or office in the club as defined by the official protocols of due process as defined by the Dallas County Community College District.
ARTICLE VI Meetings
Section I: WEEKLY MEETINGS
A. Meetings will be held at a time designated by the Club Sponsor(s) or Executive Committee. Announcements will be sent electronically, by telephone or text messages, or by posting on the club poster(s) in the hallways of the college.
Section II: SPECIAL MEETINGS
A. Club sponsor(s), the President or Vice-President, or a vote of the Executive Committee may call a special meeting.
Section III: Quorum
A. A quorum shall be defined as a simple majority of those club members present at any special meeting.
Section IV: Parliamentary Procedures
Robert’s Rules of Order will be the protocols for conducting business of the “Mark Wilson” Magic Club at Mountain View College.
ARTICLE VII FACULTY ADVISOR
Section I: ROLE:
Faculty advisors will provide advice and support for promoting the purpose and members of the club.
ARTICLE VIII Finances
Section I: DUES
A. The club may charge a membership fee or dues.
ARTICLE IX Amendments
Section I: Articles of this constitution may be amended by a simple majority vote of those members present at special called meeting for the purpose of amending the constitution.
Section II: A special called meeting for amending the constitution will be determined by the Executive Committee or by the approval of a simple majority vote of the club’s membership in response of a motion to call for a special meeting for amending the constitution.
ARTICLE X Enacting Clause
Section I: This constitution shall become effective upon the approval of the Student Programs and Resources Director.
